Sustainability certification for digital infrastructure

TCO Development, the organization behind the world-leading TCO Certified sustainability certification, and the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA) have joined forces to develop a sustainability certification for cloud infrastructure. This collaboration aims to set new standards for transparent and sustainable digital resources. The partnership focuses on creating comprehensive criteria that will enable procurement teams to demand transparent environmental impact data and set clear standards for how digital resources are produced and delivered. These criteria will cover data center best practices, IT hardware, operational software, and the broader supply chain - with a particular emphasis on the organization’s operating principles and resource generation practices, an area where clear requirements have been lacking. “TCO Development has been a leader in promoting sustainable IT products for 30 years. Extending our certification to include services allows us to drive sustainability across a broader range of industries,” says Andreas Nobell, Development Manager at TCO Development. “Reducing the environmental impact of IT is a global priority. As organizations transition from on-premise IT to external cloud providers, ensuring environmental and social sustainability becomes critical,” adds Max Schulze, CEO of SDIA.
