Progress Toward a Values-Centered Digital Infrastructure Market
We monitor and evaluate the progress of our SDIA program on a quarterly basis using the following methods
Metrics
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the amount of purchasing volume that is directed by customers and purchasers toward providers who operationalize the values of the program.
How we measure this
Quarterly Survey of providers and purchasers who have committed to operationalizing the program values, either in their purchasing or in their business practices.
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the total revenue generated by next-generation providers (who have operationalized the program values in their business practices) in Europe. This metric ensures that the program activities lead to redirecting Cloud- and IT-Infrastructure spending toward providers who embed the values in their practices.
How we measure this
Quarterly Survey of providers who have committed to operationalizing the program values in which we ask for their revenue increase or decrease.
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the growth of new local employment created by next-generation providers. This metric ensures that a growth in revenue of these providers leads to measurable, local economic impact.
How we measure this
Quarterly Survey of providers who have committed to operationalizing the program values. We ask for jobs created within the provider’s main region, country and inside and outside of the EU.
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the reduction of environmental impact generated by next-generation providers (who have operationalized the program values in their business practices) in Europe. This metric ensures that the operationalization of values in their business practices leads to actual, measurable reductions in environmental impact.
How we measure this
Quarterly Survey in which we ask providers who have committed to operationalizing the program values to provide their most recent environmental impact metrics according to our environmental impact indicators. We then compare this to the previous quarter of their own reporting, calculating their reduction or increase. We then take the average increase or decrease across all environmental impact indicators of all next-generation providers to calculate the total change as a percentage.
Goal
Description
his KPI monitors the development and implementation of unified, government procurement strategies on national and European levels for IT & Cloud infrastructure. The strategy should align with the SDIA program values of sustainability, transparency, and local impact. We use the EU member states as our base to measure this.
How we measure this
Review of public sources. This involves monitoring and analyzing publicly available government procurement policies and strategies at both European and national levels.
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the number of policies that have been implemented which support the transformation of providers to operationalize the values, either through enhanced market conditions, subsidies or other measures. This policies should aim to support existing providers to transition toward becoming next-generation providers, operationalizing the values and implementing operational changes that reduce environmental impact or increase local economic value creation.
How we measure this
Quarterly review of published policies from governments across EU Member States.
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the percentage of next-generation providers who publish transparent and verifiable sustainability reports. The report should align with the SDIA program values and include our sustainability impact indicators.
How we measure this
Quarterly Survey in which we ask providers who have committed to operationalizing the program values to provide sustainability reports. Based on the survey data, we calculate the percentage of providers who have published the reports relative to the total number of providers who signed our commitment letter.
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the percentage of digital economy companies, businesses that primarily produce or provide digital products and services and who represent a large part of spending on IT and cloud infrastructure, that mention ‘digital infrastructure’ in their sustainability reports. This indicates the extent to which these companies acknowledge and address the sustainability impact of digital infrastructure they purchase.
How we measure this
We measure this continuously by reviewing and ranking digital companies based on their sustainability reports. We review their reports to check whether they transparently report the sustainability impact of their own IT operations and digital infrastructure they own or purchase.
Goal
Description
This KPI tracks the number of job titles that include a combination of IT, procurement, and sustainability. This reflects a shift and acknowledgment by both providers and customers that specialized roles which focus on sustainable procurement, operations and business are required in order to align an organization with the program’s values.
